The Cleveland Browns remained active in the 2009 NFL draft by trading their 19th selection to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 21st selection
and the Eagles 6th round pick. The Eagles picked up highly regarded wideout by Vegas Sharps in Jeremy Maclin who should become the big-play threat Philly needs for Donovan McNabb. The Lions added a weapon on offense to help Matthew Stafford with the selection of elite TE prospect Brandon Pettigrew. The Broncos first NFL Draft without Mike Shanahan featured the selection of a running back in Knowshon Moreno.
11. Buffalo Bills: DE Aaron Maybin - Undersized but has outstanding intial quickness off the snap. Is a playmaker but has struggles against the run and is still raw. Has bust potential.
12. Denver Broncos: RB Knowshon Moreno - Rare RB selection by Broncos that was not a priority. Has excellent vision, toughness and inside running skills. Not elite speed but can make tacklers miss.
13. Washington Redskins: DE Brian Orakpo - Big-time athlete that has bust potential due to his inconsistency. Good recognition skills but only average technique.
14. New Orleans Saints: CB Malcom Jenkins - A top priority on defense now addressed with the selection of a future Pro-Bowler. Great closing speed and footwork. Strong pick.
15. Houston Texans: OLB Brian Cushing - Hard hitter that is instinctive and excels in pass-coverage. High character player that has elite athleticism. Joins young group of Texans LB’s that should be good.
16. San Diego Chargers: DE Larry English - Powerful and disruptive player that is excellent against run and pass. Is a smart and consistent player that could be considered a sleeper that should thrive in the NFL.
17. Tampa Bay Bucs: QB Josh Freeman - A powerful armed scrambler that is still raw. Is a high-character player that is coachable. Has a long-windup and so-so accuracy. Bucs needed to address QB situation.
18. Denver Broncos: DE Robert Ayers - Run-stuffing end that accelerates to the ball quickly. Has tremendous instincts and is a hard-hitting tackler. Considered a reach at this spot but should be solid.
19. Philadelphia Eagles: WR Jeremy Maclin - Dangerous player that is still raw as a receiver but can improve. Has great athleticism and hands. Excellent return man.
20. Detroit Lions: TE Brandon Pettigrew - Has character issues but is supremely talented. A physical blocker that has prototypical size, hands and athleticism. Best player on board but not a priority for Lions.
