Miami Hurricanes Offense vs Miami Redhawks Defense
Miami University plays a physical brand of defense that ranked 1st in points allowed in the MAC and will challenge a UM offense that scored 17 points or less five times. The Hurricanes are expecting big things from a revamped offensive line with head coach Mario Cristobal known as an O-line specialist. With all of the new working parts upfront it could take a few games for the big boys to gel into a cohesive unit. ‘Canes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is coming off a dismal season where he battled an aching shoulder but should be much improved after being touted as a high-level NFL draft pick heading into last season. Van Dyke is battling a thumb injury that could be bothersome but the ‘Canes have an experienced backup in Jacurri Brown. The RedHawk D will keep things tight for a while but eventually, the Hurricanes explosive playmakers will bust out for some long gains. Miami Redhawks Offense vs Miami Hurricanes Defense
Miami’s defense was equally as disappointing as the offense last season but expect a rebound under aggressive new coordinator Lance Guidry. The RedHawks offense usually hums nicely with QB Brett Gabbert under center however they will struggle to score behind a questionable front facing a talented ‘Canes D-line. The Redhawks power running games should have some success though against an ordinary set of Hurricane linebackers. Gabbert could throw some picks in this one facing one of the nation’s better pass defenses that boast a future NFL safety tandem in Kamren Kinchins and James Williams. Gabbert will have some moments against Miami’s young cornerbacks nevertheless don’t expect much consistent offensive production.

The well-coached Redhawks will be competitive in the early goings but eventually, their smallish squad will wear down in the sweltering Miami, FL heat. The Hurricanes new high-end parts might take a few quarters to jell but in the second half of the game, they will take over to win by at least three touchdowns.
